Let God Define You

Think about David in the Bible.

• Eliab saw a shepherd - I Samuel 17:28 (a proud, naughty one)

1 Samuel 17:28

28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

• Saul saw a child - I Samuel 17:33

1 Samuel 17:33

33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

• Goliath saw roadkill - I Samuel 17:44

1 Samuel 17:44

44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.

• God saw a warrior - Whom would David have been wise to let define him? Whom did he let define him?

We must let God Define us:

• Not our friends

• Not our enemies

• Not our family

• Not the government

• Not our Past

• Not our present

• Not our religion

• Not our fears

• Not our failures

How does God define us? -

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

• Predestinated - Ephesians 1:5 - Something determined ahead of time

Ephesians 1:5

Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

• Adopted - Ephesians 1:5 - Made a child in God’s family

Ephesians 1:5

Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

• Accepted - Ephesians 1:6 - Freely blessed with all good things because of our position in Christ

To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

• Redeemed - Ephesians 1:7 - Bought out of sins slave market and set free

Ephesians 1:7

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

• Forgiven - Ephesians 1:7 - Released from the obligation and debt of sin

Ephesians 1:7

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

• Heir - Ephesians 1:11 - Oh what awaits us in the glory land of Heaven

Ephesians 1:11

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

• Sealed - Ephesians 1:13 - Secured, designated, made sure - Salvation forever safe

Ephesians 1:13

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
